The Work plan. Building a sustainability management system for an SKN client includes the following steps:
1. Sustainability assessment review. a. Identify sustainability-related risks and opportunities existing within the customer's organization, or originating from external stakeholders. b. Determine how sustainability risks and opportunities can be measured or monitored. c. Review of customer's organizational structure, technology platforms, existing data and data collection gaps to determine the need for specialized metrics requirements. d. Develop a baseline business case, including historic performance and results indicators, including current performance trends and projections. e. Prepare an action plan that specifies how each sustainability-related risk or opportunity will be measured or monitored, together with its historic measurement comparison. f. The software product(s) used to interface with the company's existing management systems will be identified. (See the "Products" tab in this section of the website.)
2. Metrics design. Metrics design includes the following: a. A metric is designed for each measurable risk and opportunity, including performance measurement and complimentary leading and results indicators. b. Metrics are designed to incorporate sustainability-related probablistic outcomes. c. Evaluation of "best practices" or "best of breed" measurement tools for each metric to insure that a customized metric builds upon, and does not "miss", valuable components currently in use. This work includes a comparison with specialized metrics collection and reporting standards, such as the FASB, and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). d. Review of metric design to insure that each metric is auditable. e. Metric design includes measures to protect the confidentiality of information obtained.
3. Implementation and Review. This stage includes the following: a. Customer training and facilitation. b. Monitoring the new system's operation for a pre-set time period. c. Preparation of a written report describing and comparing current versus historic and previously projected performance and results.
Note. SKN contract terms may include a form of results-oriented risk sharing and value based pricing options. |
